Deseret News in Salt Lake City stated that "only the best try out for the Gina Bachauer International Piano Competition." Those that are accepted are indeed head, shoulders, and fingertips above the rest. During the 45 years of Bachauer competition history, approximately 1,500 pianists of varying ages have competed, more than $850,000 prize money has been awarded, and countless careers have been launched. Previous Bachauer winners can be found around the world performing concerts, teaching at major universities, and inspiring the next generation. The Bachauer International Piano Competitions have been emulated by many – and yet, surpassed by none.
