PENNSYLVANIA LAND SURVEYORS' FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP

AMOUNT

Several scholarships with the amounts being paid as lump sum awards.

RECIPIENTS

The scholarship recipients will be chosen by the Foundation’s Board of Trustees based upon achievements, content of responses, grammar, presentation and an advisor’s evaluation. Announcement of the recipients will be made in July of each year. The Foundation will not discriminate against any person in the selection process on the basis of age, race, religion, sex, ancestry or national origin.

OBJECTIVE

To promote, improve and encourage the profession and practice of land surveying in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania by providing financial assistance to those persons intending to pursue, or who are currently pursuing, an education in surveying with an ultimate goal of becoming practicing Professional Land Surveyors.

ELIGIBILITY

The applicant must be a citizen of the United States and be a resident of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

The applicant must be enrolled in or be accepted in a two-year Surveying Technology Program or a four-year Bachelor of Science Program in Land Surveying.

The applicant must submit copies of SAT scores and high school or college transcripts with completed transcript release from a guidance office or registrar’s office.

AWARD

Scholarships will be disbursed in two installments: the first issue being given by early fall of the award year, and the second at the beginning of the new year. Both installments are subject to current enrollment in a two-year Surveying Technology Program or in a four-year Bachelor of Science Surveying Program.

EVALUATION

Each applicant will be evaluated on a point-count system as described below.


Performance Factors – 100 points maximum as follows:

  • Applicant's Academic Record (SAT Scores and Grades) – 30 points
    High school seniors will be rated on their SAT scores. The verbal score will count for a maximum of 15 points and the math score for a maximum of 15 points.
    College students will be rated on their cumulative grade point average at the time they apply for the scholarship.

  • Applicant's Activities – 20 points
    Evaluation of applicant’s activities and honors, work experience, leadership positions and distinguishing qualifications.

  • Applicant's Statement – 30 points
    Evaluation of content, clarity of ambitions and career goals, grammar, spelling and neatness.

  • References and Evaluator Scholarship Recommendation Form – 20 points
    The applicant must submit three character references from someone who is not a family member.
    The student’s guidance counselor/advisor should provide an objective evaluation regarding academics and character on the "Evaluator Scholarship Recommendation Form". This form should be mailed separately from the student’s application.
